A Model represents a specific product — for example a particular notebook model from a specific manufacturer. Every Hardware Asset is linked to a Model, and every Model is linked to a Category and (optionally) a Manufacturer.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Overview
Models are the bridge between a generic Category ("Notebook") and a concrete Hardware Asset (a specific serial-numbered device).
Core Fields
- Name
- Description
- Model Number
- Icon and Content Type – falls back to the Category icon on a Hardware Asset if the Model has none set.
Manufacturer
A Model can reference a Manufacturer, which is a Company record flagged as a manufacturer.
Category
Every Model belongs to one Category, which determines the Custom Fields available on Hardware Assets/Configuration Items using this Model.
Integration Keys
Models can carry technical identifiers used to match them against external systems:
- Key Model Intune
- Key Model Apple
- Key Model Sccm
- Key Model Custom 1/2/3 – free custom matching keys for other integrations.
Display Name
Display Name is generated automatically as Manufacturer-ShortName-ModelNumber. Make sure the Manufacturer Company has a Short Name set and the Model has a Model Number, otherwise Display Name stays empty.
